Important UK Immigration Changes for Skilled Workers Starting 22nd July 2025

Starting 22nd July 2025, a significant update for UK Skilled Worker Visa rules is coming under the new Statement of Changes HC 997. We at A2Z Immigration have prepared an extensive article breaking down the updates here.

However, once again, we would like to offer a short summary of the key changes that go into effect on 22nd July 2025. Here are the major points to note:

  • Minimum Skill Level Raised: Applicants must now have a degree-level qualification (RQF Level 6) or higher, which means that around 180 occupations will no longer be eligible for a Skilled Worker Visa.
  • Salary Threshold Increased: The salary floor will rise from £38,700 to £41,700, meaning higher salaries are required for new Skilled Worker Visa applications.
  • Higher Language Requirements: Applicants must meet CEFR B2 level (IELTS 5.5), and all dependents must meet CEFR A1 level (IELTS 3.0). However, this change will go into effect at a later date this year.
  • Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR): The period for ILR will increase from 5 years to 10 years for most workers, with exceptions for certain professions.
  • Graduate Visa Reduced: The Graduate Visa will be shortened from 2 years to 18 months, with a minimum requirement of RQF Level 6 for graduate-level jobs.

What Do Employers and Employees Need to Know?

All of the changes will have a major impact on employers and prospective skilled workers. Therefore, it is important for both groups to know what to do both before and after 22nd July 2025, so that they are not blindsided by the changes. That is why we at A2Z Immigration have broken down the key points that employers and employees should keep in mind.

For Employers:

  • If you do not already have a Sponsor Licence, apply as soon as possible.
  • If you already have a Sponsor Licence, ensure you apply for a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) and submit a list of applications from candidates before 22nd July 2025 to comply with the new regulations.

For Employees:

  • If you’re planning to switch to a Skilled Worker Visa, do so before 22nd July 2025, as the new skill level (RQF Level 6) and salary requirements (£41,700) will only be applicable after that date.

As always, things are constantly changing in regards to UK Immigration and Skilled Worker Visa. That is why it is important to follow all of the major updates that will continue to be revealed till the end of this year, particularly in relation to Statement of Changes HC 997.
